Frumpy Storage No More

41Are you annoyed with having to iron everything you take out of your closet because is is so cramped or stuffed full? You will be amazed with what a little closet organization can do. One way to do that is to install a closet organizer. Here are the materials, tools, and instructions on how to install that organizer.

Materials

Shelving components, closet organizer or shelving, new knobs for your doors from Century Hardware.

Tools

Flat pry bar, level, tape measure, stud finder, pencil, hacksaw, drill with Phillips bit, screwdriver, and a hammer.

The easiest and least expensive way to an organized closet is to use coated wire shelving. You can buy these in a kit or individual components. You can save money by using an old dresser in the closet and building shelves around it. There are a lot of options here, so plan carefully before you begin the project.

Installation steps

  1. Use the hammer and pry bar to remove any existing shelves or rods. Spackle all holes then repaint the closets interior.

  2. Measure your closet carefully. Plan out where your long and short length cloths will be hanging. That will make your cloths less crowded. Make a rough drawing of how the closet will look when it is done. When you are estimating space, remember that the shelves are going to be about 2 inches thick. Many times a kit will do for everything except the new knobs and hardware for the doors. You will want to order these from Century Hardware. You may need to cut the shelves and hanging track with the hacksaw.

  3. Use the level an pencil to draw a line 6 inches above where you want the first shelf to be. Find all of the studs. Cut a hanging track to fit each wall, then screw it to every available stud. Slip the standards into place every 16 to 32 inches apart.

Those are the basics of installing a closet organizer. You can choose to add a wire basket or shoe shelf or any of a dozen other options to fit your needs. While you are remodeling the interior of the closet, you could repaint the closet door(s) and add new knobs and hinges from Century Hardware.

Good luck with your project!

The Little Things In A Home Remodel

thumb_6458_AC644Changing the lighting and the wall coverings are easy remodeling tips to give. What new floor coverings are green and eco friendly is easy to tell, but in any remodeling project the devil is in the small details. Everyone knows to match your carpet to your walls and moldings, but how many think to change their faceplates and wall switches? Probably the same number of people who think to change their data covers. Cabinet knobs and pulls are often overlooked, too.

A room will not come completely together if you don’t finish the small details off. What good is a wood switch plate if there is not other wood used in the décor? The same goes for your data ports. The wall sockets for your computer and fax can be changed as easily as a face plate for you light sockets. Acenti products can help you with those change overs. Acenti offers a large assortment of data port covers in several colors and designs to match any new décor. You can match your light covers and data port covers to your walls for a completely tied in look that will fully finish your remodeling project.

Let’s not forget those cabinet pulls and knobs. These don’t have to just be the ones in your kitchen or bathroom. The pulls on a computer desk or end tables can all be changed to bring them into a rooms décor, if you want to. There is no reason to neglect these small parts with the selection that Century hardware has to offer. Century hardware offers more than 270 different knobs and pulls to match any décor.

Make sure to finish any remodeling job by remembering that the devil is in the small details.

Dressing the Part: Decorative Hardware and Plumbing Accessories

QUALITY Decorative Hardware and Plumbing
Let’s face it, you wouldn’t dream of going to an elegant dinner party dressed in jeans and a baseball cap, so why would you consider dressing your kitchen or bath that way? Like your choice of wardrobe, every element of your decor says something about you. Choosing high-quality hardware and fixtures add to the overall beauty and function of the room.

Just like those perfect earrings accentuate your outfit, hardware and decorative plumbing fixtures are the jewelry of a room.  But you can sure tell the difference between a diamond and a cubic zirconia! Hardware manufacturers like Cliffside, Century and Smedbo, use solid brass for extreme durability and offer a wide array of styles and finishes, but they don’t stop there. All their brass hardware products are protected by a clear and durable lacquer finish which won’t rub off or tarnish over time.  Iron, pewter, glass and stone are also available with the same quality construction and innovative designs.

And don’t forget about those plumbing fixtures! Just like a stunning pair of shoes can make or break your outfit, a beautiful faucet is the focal point of your kitchen or bathroom sink. Consider manufacturers like Hamat who create functional works of art to adorn your kitchen and bath. They use the best materials and precise engineering to create products that operate flawlessly for years and years. In fact, Hamat is one of only four companies in the world that control the entire manufacturing process of their products from raw material to final assembly.  Likewise, Delta has built an international reputation for innovation and engineering of quality plumbing fixtures for every room in your home.  So take a look at that old hardware in your kitchen or the faucet in your bath. What does it say about the room? What does it say about your home?

It’s time to get dressed!
